WPR is the Bridge Run partner on April 3rd, which means that you can come out and participate for free that day. You should also consider joining up for the full training program!
From the organizers at Philly Run Fest: "The Bridge Runing and Happy Hour Training Program is Philly's must do Spring fitness event. It started as a simple way for us to give back to the running community. But, now it sells out at 125 runners every year!
The Bridge Running and Happy Hour Training Program meets every Tuesday for the six weeks before Broad Street to run the Ben Franklin Bridge and then get together for a beer after. At the Bar, you will receive one free beer each week and there are raffles for sweet running goodies. While you mingle, we also give you the opportunity to meet a new running club and a new Philadelphia based charity each week.
The team will be meets every Tuesday evening starting March 27, 2018 at 7:00pm for a spectacular bridge run. All levels of runners are welcome.
Plus, PHILADELPHIA RUNNER will give all registered runners $15 off their next pair of shoes ($75 or more).
We're teaming up with Clean Air Council and Not in Philly to organize a Philly Plogging Week. If you haven't seen internet articles about this yet, plogging is a trend out of Sweden that combines running with picking up litter.
The idea is to incorporate plogging into our normal weekly run and we're going to prview this on April 4th at WPR while the rest of the city does plogging week on the week of April 9th. Gloves and trash bags will be supplied at the start of the run.
As you can imagine, if you tried to pick up every piece of litter you saw in the city on your run, you'd be pulling 40 minute/mile pace, so we suggest that you stop about once per block. If there's a particularly bad block, then your fellow runners will have your back. It's not going to be perfect, but it'll make a hell of an impact.
The reason for this event and the promotion around it is two-fold. First, we want to draw attention to the need for better litter management (street sweeping, more public bins, etc.) and second, it'll be a promotion for the Run for Clean Air that's on April 22.
12th Annual Race for Humanity to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association Saturday, April 7, 2018 @ 9:00 AM.
Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is leading the fight to free individuals—and the families who love them—from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence, and life. MDA uses its collective strength to help kids and adults live longer and grow stronger by finding research breakthroughs across diseases, caring for individuals from day one and empowering families with services and support in hometowns across America.
Since 1996, Gift of Life Donor Program, together with their dedicated volunteers, has hosted the Donor Dash to promote organ and tissue donation. The Dash celebrates the life-saving power of donation and honors all of the donors who give others a second chance at life.
The popular annual event, which attracts more than 12,000 people from throughout the tristate region, raises essential funds to educate the community about the need for more people to register as organ and tissue donors.
