WPR Sportscast for Wednesday May 20

A few words about this week's run

With all the excitement of the 26x1 behind us, you'd think it was time to settle down and just relax, but there are still plenty of awesome events coming up, including next week's Beat the Commute race.

This time of year is also marked by Penn graduation (and Penn Christmas, the greatest holiday of them all), but it's also sadly a time when we lose some friends who are wrapping up graduate programs and apparently think there are other places to live other than West Philly. While I expect we'll be seeing them again, we are saying goodbye to Heeju, Tzuo Han, and Marie, so make sure to buy them all the beers and wish them well on their next steps.

Upcoming run sports

Wiss. Wanderers' Trail Race Series - Every Thursday in May 6:30pm

Run in one or more of the FREE informal trail races (organized by the Wissahickon Wanderers) on Thursday evenings in May: May 7, 14, 21, 28 starting at 6:30 from Valley Green Inn.
The distances range generally from 3 to 5 miles through the woods of the Wissahickon and along Forbidden Drive. The trail series races are FREE and open to absolutely everyone.

Beat the Commute! - Friday May 29

Ever been stuck in traffic on your drive home and wonder whether you could just run home faster. Well, now's your chance to prove it.

ODDyssey Half Marathon - June 14

Between the costume contest, beer tent, and the awesome course through Fairmount Park, this is (in my humble opinion) the best half-marathon in Philly. Register under our team when it asks how you found out. If we get a group of 10 together, we'll have our own party tent that we will stock with beer and a blowup monkey doll. The race is likely to sell out (it's small - only 4000 runners) so register soon.

This week's routes (to Pasqually's)

6 Miler
