WPR Sportscast for Wednesday January 22

I'm delighted that this winter has given us so many chances to run in snow together. At this point, all signs point to a lot of the white stuff still being around for our run tomorrow night. Remember to throw on your crampons (or trail shoes, in the least) if the roads aren't clear yet. Also, wear layers and a wind breaker since the windchill is supposed to be near 0. Please refer to this video for some good advice on sub-zero running.

What else is coming up?

In the very near future, I must emphasize the Chilly Cheeks race in Reading on January 26. I have heard some interest from a bunch of you and I think you will really enjoy it if you like trail running up a small mountain in January, and I know you do. Come test out your mid-winter fitness.

The Health Trails 5K on April 13 is up along the Frankford Creek Trail is similar to the much lauded (by me) Cobbs Creek 5K. All funds raised go to supporting programming at the park.

Lenape Survival Challenge, my personal favorite race of the year, is coming up on April 26. Grab a partner that's a similar pace, run 4.5 miles together through farm fields, up and down a ski slope and through the woods, then hop into a canoe to paddle together to the finish line! Last year we brought 11 two-person teams and I think we can have an even better turnout this year! Plus, we still need to take down the team from Lockhead Martin that has held the title for 6 years.

The WPR 26 x 1 mile Relay Challenge is coming up on May 17th. This year is bound to be the biggest 26x1 ever. We already have 12 (!) teams registered - WPR Team 2 has been formed and you can join up there. I want you all to spread the word to your friends in other running groups and those that don't run with groups at all and have them register and save the date!

Ah, the ODDyssey Half Marathon on June 8. Most of you remember my badgering you all about this race for like 3 months last year. Well, I think that the fiasco of having our tent be way less exciting than the actual beer garden area has been cleared up so I'd like to get a team together again. Register and use code "MidAtlantic" to save $5. When you register list me as your referral - choose ambasssador when asked who referred you.
